Kitty Mhlongo, marketing manager at Kemtek, described how bar code printers and scanners have shifted from simple, everyday tools to essential components of digital transformation. “Over the past three decades, the automatic identification and data capture industry has undergone a remarkable transformation,” she said. In the mid‑1990s, the focus was on improving manual processes with basic bar coding, and system integration was limited.
Today, those devices sit within a broader digital ecosystem that links directly to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, warehouse management platforms, analytics tools and cloud applications. Edward Lee, regional sales director at Argox, noted that this shift has turned identification technology from a support function into a strategic asset.
