Quectel has introduced two new smart modules running Android 16 for 4G and 5G IoT devices in industrial and commercial markets. The SH602FA and SE505FE modules combine the latest operating system with wireless connectivity and multimedia features to streamline development and accelerate product launches.

Android 16 arrives on IoT hardware

The modules enable connected devices to interact more efficiently with surrounding systems. A vending machine, for instance, can share data directly with a building’s energy management platform without custom integration. Retail kiosks can display live updates, promotions, and transaction confirmations using Android’s built-in tools, removing the need for separate display controllers.

Wearables, industrial handhelds, and in-vehicle systems benefit from better graphics, media performance, and security. These improvements help manufacturers reduce software development effort and hardware requirements, cutting product cycles.

“With the SH602FA and SE505FE, we are offering Android 16 to IoT developers across the connectivity spectrum,” said Zeljko Maric, Quectel’s product development manager. “Customers building high-performance industrial terminals or affordable 5G smart devices now have production-ready modules that simplify design.”

Two modules, two performance tiers

The SH602FA is a 4G module for industrial IoT applications needing strong computing and multimedia performance. It uses the MediaTek MT8786 chipset with a 2× Cortex-A75 and 6× Cortex-A55 processor setup and a G52 MC2 GPU. The module supports cameras up to 64MP and 2K video at 30 frames per second, making it ideal for handheld terminals, inspection devices, and smart intercoms.

It includes LTE Cat 4, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, and GNSS in a compact LCC form factor with multiple interfaces for quick integration. The SE505FE targets 5G devices. Built on the MediaTek MT8863T chipset, it features a 2× Cortex-A76 and 6× Cortex-A55 processor with a Mali-G57 GPU. This module supports 5G Sub-6GHz and LTE Cat 4, along with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and GNSS.

Possible uses include AR/VR devices, digital signage, smart gateways, tablets, and robotics. Both modules come with global certification support, letting manufacturers deploy them across markets without extra compliance steps.

Developers gain from Android 16’s integration, spending less time on low-level work and more on application features. A logistics company deploying smart tracking devices could use the module’s built-in connectivity and multimedia functions instead of designing custom hardware. Healthcare monitoring systems and smart city infrastructure also benefit, as standardized platforms lower costs and speed up adoption.

The modules join Quectel’s existing Android lineup, providing scalable options for 4G and 5G IoT projects. By combining the operating system with integrated wireless and multimedia processing, the company helps manufacturers launch connected products faster in automation, retail, and healthcare.

These tools reduce development barriers, allowing businesses to focus on innovation rather than technical hurdles.
