Crowe BGK, a Canadian accounting firm operating out of Montreal and Ottawa, has integrated Fieldguide’s AI-powered platform to update its audit procedures. This represents the first instance where a Canadian accounting firm has linked the software with CPA Canada’s standardized Professional Engagement Guide (PEG) forms, embedding compliance documentation directly into the audit workflow.
Combining AI tools with standardized audit forms
The collaboration merges Fieldguide’s AI capabilities with CPA Canada’s established engagement forms. Previously, firms using PEG had to alternate between separate systems for documentation and evidence collection. Now, audit teams can access PEG forms within Fieldguide’s platform, eliminating the need for manual switching and automating checks for incomplete or inconsistent evidence.
Fieldguide’s system also enables real-time risk assessments and updates PEG forms whenever CPA Canada releases revisions. The platform maintains complete audit trails, ensuring every AI-assisted action remains subject to human review.
For Crowe BGK, this adoption supports its strategy of redirecting staff attention from repetitive tasks toward higher-value judgment and client interactions. The firm, which employs over 275 professionals and has 41 partners, views the technology as an extension of its established approach to rapid technology integration.
Significance for Canadian audit firms
Canadian accounting firms face growing pressure to modernize as client demands and regulatory requirements change. Traditional audit methods, which depend on manual documentation and fixed checklists, are now seen as less efficient compared to AI-supported workflows that automate routine steps while preserving professional oversight.
Brian Kreisman, Crowe BGK’s managing partner, described the partnership as a logical progression of the firm’s technology-focused culture. Aaron J. Noga, the firm’s assurance leader, emphasized that the shift involves more than tool adoption—it requires rethinking how assurance work is organized.
Angela Giannoumis, Crowe BGK’s director of digital transformation and assurance innovation, identified the primary advantage: reducing administrative workloads.
Industry-wide changes in audit processes
Jin Chang, Fieldguide’s CEO, observed that Crowe BGK stands out as an early adopter preparing for AI-enhanced audits. Unlike firms treating new software as an optional addition, Crowe BGK had already restructured its operations around client-focused, technology-ready models.
CPA Canada’s participation reinforces the integration’s compliance emphasis. The arrangement ensures firms using Fieldguide can access updated PEG documentation without disrupting their current operations.
